What is Gout?
Gout is a type of arthritis that is caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in joints. Purines, that are a part of many foods we eat, are broken down into uric acid. An abnormality in regulating uric acid and crystallization of these compounds in joints can cause attacks of painful arthritis.
An attack of gout is characterized by acute pain of joints and then by reddish swellings and discolorations in the area. The pain if untreated can last for 5-7 days. The second attack may happen before the end of the year. So it is vital to treat gout before it becomes impossible to heal.
