Cannabis has long since been used as a medicinal drug for temporary relief from various illnesses. Whether it’s vomiting, nausea or chronic pain, cannabis has seemed to weaken their effects on the human body in most cases. Scientists and researchers have thus concluded that marijuana is not ‘all bad’.

Marijuana has been used to treat migraine for a long time now, but it’s been only recently that doctors and physicians have agreed on a conclusion. Cannabis does help reduce the effects of migraine.

Migraine is a type of headache disorder which has several recurrent phases ranging from moderate to severe pain. Even though there is no known permanent cure for migraine, there are certain pain relievers and painkillers in the market. Phenobarbital is often prescribed or sometimes minor tranquilizers like Ativan. All these medications have a long list of side effects.

Migraine and Cannabis

Many patients had taken up Cannabis as their last resort after exhausting all their sources and treatments. In most of these cases, the patients have had a very positive opinion about the effect of cannabis. They said that it reduced the pain to a great extent. Due to a deep physical and mind ‘high’, the headaches are not pronounced.

As another added advantage, cannabis does not have as many side effects as all the other drugs and medications that are prescribed. As a result of this, more and more doctors are relying on medicinal marijuana as a potential way to treat migraine.

One involves eating it as a form of pill or medicine. Marinol is an excellent example of such a pill. The second method involves smoking the marijuana.

Patients have been subjects to both the methods. After a thorough study, scientists concluded that smoking marijuana provides an immediate relief to the headaches and consuming marijuana takes longer to take effect.

Considering all the research that has been done and all conclusions that have been drawn from them, it is safe to assume that marijuana has helped treat migraine in majority of the cases.
