It’s well-known that the legalization of medical marijuana has swept the nation over recent years. It’s now legal in 29 states and Washington DC, and is used by millions of people for countless conditions. If you’re new to medical marijuana, it’s easy to assume that medical patients are getting high with each dose of cannabis they take. Not all cannabis however, contains the psychoactive compound commonly known as THC.

CBD: Medical Marijuana Without the High

Several medical marijuana patients use cannabis with the compound CBD, responsible for a bounty of medical benefits without the buzz. Using medical marijuana without getting high is quickly becoming the preferred method of treatment. And CBD is what’s making it possible.

CBD (or cannabidiol) is a compound found in cannabis that doesn’t contain the psychoactive properties commonly associated with marijuana. In short, CBD can’t get you high. It barely binds to these receptors. In fact, CBD has shown to actually reduce feelings of anxiety that psychoactive compound THC can often illicit. In other words, get too high on THC and you can take CBD to help balance it out.

A Medical Miracle?

Shown to be beneficial for several medical conditions, CBD is used several people across the country. From children with epilepsy and autism, to adults suffering from multiple sclerosis, cancer, and Chron’s, CBD has been heralded as a “miracle medication” by many.

Take parents who have decided to treat their children with CBD. It has shown to dramatically reduce seizures in even rare forms of epilepsy, something countless parents are viewing as the miracle CBD has been publicized as. It’s gone from controversial to mainstream in a matter of years, showing promise where traditional medications and treatments fall short.

CBD is used by thousands of people who literally have no idea what it’s even like to be high. And as more people report outstanding benefits from its medical use, outdated stoner stereotypes continue to crumble. In fact, more people favor the legalization of marijuana today than ever before.

Treating Countless Conditions without THC

Both CBD and THC are used medically…so yes, some medical marijuana will get you high. Those looking to medicate without the effects pot is traditionally known for however, will find relief using CBD.

Because of interest that continues to increase over its benefits, more people are turning to CBD as a natural remedy for countless conditions. Some of the most common include:

  • Epilepsy and Seizures
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Inflammation
  • Migraines
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • PTSD

These are but a few conditions that medical marijuana treats without getting patients high. CBD has been shown to be so effective, it is beginning to gain increased attention as a means to overcome various addictions.

CBD is also commonly used to combat stress. Many see it as a safer alternative to prescription meds that often produce unwanted (and sometimes serious) side effects.

According to Martin Lee, director of Project CBD, “CBD has been a game changer for medical marijuana. Its safety and lack of psychoactivity undermines any argument that it should be illegal.”

Many are beginning to respect the benefits of CBD. For many, using medical marijuana without getting high is just what the doctor ordered. It works in ways traditional medicines don’t. And because it doesn’t get patients high, is a medical miracle that can be experienced by everyone.
