Cannabis is probably one of the most underestimated drugs in the world today. It has a large number of usages and possibilities. Doctors are using medical cannabis to treat all forms of diseases and illnesses like glaucoma, nausea, Crohn’s Disease, schizophrenia, sickle cell anemia, cancer, AIDS, diabetes and many more. It has a compound called cannabidiol (CBD) which has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea and antiemetic properties.
Inspite of the debates and discussions, the US government has legalized therapeutic and medicinal marijuana in many of the states. Pennsylvania is on the verge of cannabis legalization. The residents of this state have been waiting for a very long time to get access to medical cannabis. There are patients suffering from all forms of diseases and disorders and marijuana can be a probable solution for many of them.
As of now, this state has given access to medical marijuana to patients suffering from 17 different forms of illness. Only if the patient is suffering from one of these 17 conditions will he or she be subjected to cannabis treatment. The 17 diseases are-
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord with objective neurological indication of intractable spasticity
- Huntington’s disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Intractable seizures
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

- Sickle cell anemia
Doctors and physicians are allowed to prescribe medical cannabis only in the forms of oils, tinctures, pills and some form vaping mechanism. Under no circumstance will the user be allowed to smoke the plant’s flower or buds.
The State government is coming up with newer rules and amending older ones almost every day so that all the necessary patients can have access to this particular treatment.
New Rules and Regulations
With the onset of these new amendments, more and more companies are setting up shops to sell medical marijuana. The government has laid down a set of rules for all dispensaries and hospitals selling marijuana to the common wealth.
Dispensaries are only allowed to employees over the age of 18, be located at least 1,000 feet away from schools and daycares. Both customers and employers are subjected to video surveillance.
With time, the Pennsylvania laws will loosen up further and the war on drugs will end.
