Nevada has been a tough contender in issues of marijuana legalization for the past decade or so and with the advent of new laws, the state’s criminal justice system has turned a new leaf.
In accordance to Question 4, where voters approved a state wide adult use of cannabis, an individual will not be charged for possessing small amounts of marijuana. The county officers have agreed upon the fact that there will be no new charges against cannabis possession. Even though these amendments have already made cannabis legalization effective, the justice department will keep enforcing current laws until the new laws are put to society.
Steve Wolfson, the district attorney for Clark County has responded to the states questions and has said that no new charges will be filed against individuals carry less than an ounce of marijuana. All cases in progress regarding the same will be dropped as well. This new leniency towards cannabis possession charges has made Las Vegas a dreamland for hard core party enthusiasts and stoners.
City Attorney Brad Jerbic told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that as long as defendants ‘stay out of trouble’, no charges will be filed.
The New Vegas Order
These amendments do not mean that cannabis is completely legal in the state. You can still be fined $600 or might have to go to prison for cannabis possession and consumption if the Feds see fit. So far this year, the police have arrested 175 individuals for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Although they claim that they had other charges along with cannabis possession charges. If not the charges will be dropped.
Tick Segerblom has predicted Las Vegas “is going to be the Amsterdam of the West” by this time next year when retail stores and dispensaries open up around the city.Any person who’s 21 or older can carry less than an ounce of flower and an eighth ounce of concentrates without fear of cannabis possession charges being filed. A household can grow a maximum of 12 cannabis plants.
These aspects have made the people regain their faith in the government. They can now live the life they desire and relish the fruits of the true American dream. Someday in the far future, cannabis will be one of biggest contenders in the market.
