Morgan Freeman is the man. Throughout his career he’s been nominated for 39 awards… and won 33. He is truly one of the most celebrated actors of our time and has been recognized widely for his innate acting ability. Shawshank Redemption, anyone? How about Million Dollar Baby, where Freeman won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor?

Hands down, Morgan Freeman is one of the most talented actors in history with one of the most distinct voices in Hollywood ever. He’s also a strong supporter of medical and recreational marijuana. And more recently he’s been letting that distinct voice of his be heard.

How an Almost Fatal Accident Led Morgan Freeman to Medical Marijuana

Almost ten years ago, Freeman was involved in what could have very easily been a fatal car accident. His 1997 Nissan Maxima skidded off the road while driving across Mississippi and flipped several times. Freeman was rescued from his totaled vehicle by the Jaws of Life and quickly transported to a hospital in Memphis. In the accident Freeman shattered his left arm, elbow, and shoulder. It took doctors four hours to repair the nerves in his arm.

These days, Freeman still doesn’t have full use of his left hand. Now suffering from fibromyalgia in his left arm, Freeman takes cannabis to help cope with the pain.

Morgan Freeman on Why He Loves Weed

In a 2015 interview with the Daily Beast, Freeman was poised to talk about his new film 5 Flights Up. Instead, the actor spoke of his long-time love affair with Mary Jane.

“Marijuana has many useful uses,” Freeman told the Daily Beast. “I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana. They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says ‘Legalize it across the board!’”

Freeman went on to add, “Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use. Maybe if you have one drink, it’ll quiet you down, but two or three and you’re fucked.”

It’s no secret that Freeman has smoked weed recreationally for years. “My first wife got me into it many years ago,” he said. “How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming.”
