The benefits of medical marijuana are becoming widely known, with more people interested in cannabis than ever before. In the UK, the use of CBD oil has doubled in just one year.

CBD Use in UK Doubles in a Year…Despite a Bit of Dispute

This is despite that using the oil has seen quite a bit of controversy. Last October, the government made it legal to buy CBD oil in the UK, acknowledging that contains a “restoring, correcting or modifying” effect. Only weeks later however, they retracted on their decision, declaring that suppliers would need to obtain a medical license to sell CBD oil.

Obtaining a medical license in the UK though, is a long process. This has caused manufacturers to skirt around these rules by selling it as a food supplement rather than a medicine. These CBD oil “supplements” are gaining renowned recognition among many residents in the UK.

250,000 People in the UK Now Use CBD (And Most of them are Women)

Regulatory data shows that there are currently around 250,000 users of CBD in the UK. This is up from 125,000 this time last year. The Cannabis Trades Association UK estimates there are around 1,000 new users each month, making CBD oil one of the fastest growing commodities across the home nations.

The CTA UK has also discovered that women make up the majority of the CBD market. Approximately 65 percent of people in the UK using CBD oil are women. Mike Harlington, chairman of CTA UK, says most of them seek out CBD to find relief from anxiety, back pain, and epilepsy.

Better Understanding of CBD Still Needed

Harlington believes there needs to be a better understanding of CBD products. He believes there’s still a stigma that surrounds the use of CBD, even though it has no psychoactive properties.

“Products like CBD, because of where it comes from,” Harlington says, “are stigmatized despite the fact that every mammal has an endocannabinoid system and is therefore designed to use cannabinoids naturally.”

He goes on to add that, “cannabinoid deficiencies are starting to become understood by the medical world, and it is slowly becoming obvious that cannabinoids like CBD are actually essential for general health and wellbeing.”

This is something more and more people in the UK (and the world) are beginning to understand. As the benefits of medical cannabis and the life-changing benefits cannabinoids contain become more widely known, it’s beginning to seem that the majority of individuals are taking notice.
