Cannabis legalization is probably one of the most debated and discussed topics in the world today. The marijuana culture is spreading like wild fire through every continent. On one hand people turn a blind eye towards this magical herb. On the other hand, some people consider it to be the solution to all issues in life. Doctors and physicians are prescribing marijuana strains to patients suffering from various diseases like gastrointestinal disorder, glaucoma, diabetes, Cancer, AIDS, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, Crohn’s disorder and many more.
Due to the varied properties of cannabis, scientists and doctors are implementing in all forms of therapeutic and medicinal purposes. The cannabis laws are becoming lenient as well. Usage of cannabis for broken bones is a rather new concept and it is still being tried and tested.
Cannabis and Broken Bones
Scientists and researchers have conducted various experiments on patients suffering from broken bones, fractures and twists. They found out that the effect of cannabis doesn’t remain the same for all the patients. A certain study showed that ‘heavy consumers’ of cannabis were more susceptible to bone breaks. The reason behind this is, cannabis tends to reduce the bone density. This was only in the case of the younger generation. Using cannabis for broken bones in young adults was not an option anymore.
On the other hand it was seen that cannabis helped heal and provide relief to adult patients suffering from broken bones or fractures. Doctors and scientists carried out research on older patients to see if cannabis had any part in mending broken bones. The patients who were injected with marijuana said that their pain was considerably reduced and they felt relaxed.
Treating Fractures and Broken Bones
In 2015, some Israeli Researchers carried out an experiment on rats with broken bones. They injected rats with either CBD (cannabidiol) or a blend of psychoactive THC and CBD. The results showed that rats injected with CBD healed a lot faster. CBD is a cannabinoid that has analgesic, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory properties that helped in this case.
Cannabis can be used to provide relief to patients suffering from sprains and fractures. The human body contains its own endocannabinoid system which has CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are present in the dermis of the skin. So application of cannabis cream or using cannabis oil does help in engaging these receptors and thereby reducing the pain.
Since the conclusions of using cannabis for broken bones vary from person to person, it is best to see a doctor before you look for an option. There are many cannabis licensed doctors in the US now who can guide you through the process. Keeping these points in mind, it can be safely assumed that cannabis is a better option than all the steroids or painkillers out there today.
