How to Avoid Mistakes on Your Colorado Weed Vacation

For almost three years, Colorado weed tourism has been booming. If you’re planning a Colorado weed vacation to check out the states booming cannabis industry, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Not only is Colorado a weed-friendly state, it’s also home to some of the friendliest people around.

Please come enjoy the perks of legal pot! But also be aware of how to avoid mistakes when you visit Colorado on your next marijuana vacay. Keep the following in mind, and you’ll enjoy your toking time that much more.

Things to Keep in Mind on Your Colorado Weed Vacation

Don’t Buy Too Much

Welcome to Colorado, where you can legally buy up to an ounce of bud every time you visit a dispensary. A word of advice. As tempting as it may be to visit a dispensary five times during the week you’re here…don’t. An ounce of weed is enough to get even the seasoned of smokers high for much longer than five days. Even if you’re smoking like Snoop Dogg in your home state, take it easy when you get to Colorado. With THC potency as high as 19 percent in most strains, an eighth should be good to get you by. If you need more, visit another dispensary for another eighth (or even a few joints). There are tons to choose from, and you won’t end up wasting your weed when it’s time to go home.

Don’t Overindulge

It’s tempting to toke as much as you can while on vacation in Colorado. Weed is everywhere and so available. Do yourself a favor. Start slow. Don’t eat the edible then smoke a joint 30 minutes later when you still aren’t feeling the effects. Put out the joint when you feel high. Anyone who’s ever been too high, knows it’s not a pleasant experience. Ease into your smoking, vaping, or edible experience while visiting Colorado. Don’t overindulge just because it’s there. While it’s kind of like being a kid in a candy shop, too much of a good thing has never been a good idea. Even when it is legal weed.

Be Modest with Your Marijuana Consumption

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone in Colorado is walking down the street blazing a joint. You can’t just smoke anywhere you want. Doing so isn’t just inconspicuous, it’s ignorant. Be respectful of those around you and display some modesty of your marijuana consumption. It’s illegal to smoke pretty much everywhere outdoors. This means no toking on the slopes, no smoking in a public park, and no leaving the bar to puff on a joint outside while your friends are smoking. There are plenty of places to be discreet with your marijuana use. Public isn’t one of them.

Don’t Purchase Pot on the Streets

Legal weed hasn’t gotten rid of the black market in Colorado. Just take a look at Craigslist. You’ll find plenty of illegal growers offering cannabis at a fraction of the cost that you can buy it in a store. Buying your bud from anyone other than a licensed retailer isn’t just dumb, it’s dangerous. Not only do you not know what you’re getting, but you don’t know who you’re buying from. Play things safe avoid buying legal weed.

Don’t Ditch Your Stash in the Wrong Place When it’s Time to Leave

This goes back to the first tip of not buying too much weed. If you do happen to have some pot left over at the end of your trip, don’t stash it in the wrong place when it’s time to go home. It isn’t likely your Uber driver wants your weed as a tip for taking them to the airport. And even if they do, think of it as a bonus…on top of a cash tip. Rental car lots at DIA have seen their fair share of stashes ditched by tourists who can’t take it home. Definitely don’t leave it in your hotel room, unless of course you’re staying at a 420-friendly hotel. And whatever you do, don’t try to take it on the plane.

Coming to Colorado for a weed-themed vacay can be one of the most memorable experiences of your life. Just make sure to do it right so you can have the best time you possibly can.
